I love "hunting and gathering", I love tips, roadside pickups, op shops and garage sales....there I've said it....I'm addicted to the thrill of finding that little something! I watched a program recently about a woman who talked about her obsession with "hunting and gathering", she commented that her heart starts to race, her head spins and she looses all sense of time. Mmmm I could relate to her, there's is nothing like spying that little something way up the road, "could that be the chair I'm looking for", "is that a....no it couldn't be...yes (screaming) it is...just what I've been looking for!!"
To be a good 'hunter and gatherer" you need to be prepared to get your hands dirty, you need to be prepared to rummage and you need to know your stuff!
Recently....actually last week...I didn't want to sound like I'm obsessed....I set aside a day to hunt and gather. I confess I do this every week, I had in my mind that I wanted a set of retro kitchen canisters for "Miss 1969", I had checked out what was on eBay to get a rough idea of pricing...not that that's the best gauge but it helps and found that these canisters were selling for a fortune! Mmmm...."not paying that I thought".....I finished my day in the op shop just around the corner from me, I go there to buy my vintage sheets....I had no sooner entered the shop when out of the corner of my eye I spied something shiny on the top shelf of the bric a brac. "No it couldn't be"....yes it was, the canisters I had been looking for PLUS the three tiered scones/cake/biscuits tin and with bakelite knobs on top!!! On closer inspection I checked the price and saw $12 on the sticker..."no way, $12, that can't be right" mmm so how do I get to the counter to check if they are for sale and keep the canisters covered before someone else comes in! What a dilemma...I'm sure you understand....
"Yes $12 for the complete set" said the lady who was rearranging clothes close to where the canisters were". Without taking a breath....and I'm sure the whole of the Gong heard me....I said "I'll have them", mind you I was trying to downplay my excitement in case they put the price up!
Here they are, my find of the week.....
Until next time
