It's been nearly twelve months since I made the decision to finish paid employment and pursue my dream of having a small business. They say time flies when you're having fun, and.....seriously, where has the time gone!
I knew it wasn't going to be easy but I was prepared to put whatever was needed into starting this adventure!
When our kids were little, my Ambling sister and I had a little business where the aim was to be able to contribute to the family income as well as do something creative.
I have fond memories of those days: our mother had a spare room so we set up our machines, planned our designs and then got about sewing. Our kids, who are around the same age, sat at our feet and played with the bits of fabric, lace, buttons, and mum, god bless her, swept up and fed and watered us. The memories of this time evoke a feeling of wonderful bliss!
We made children's clothes....unique designs from denim, chambray, lace, doilies and ribbons. We loved what we did, and we were overjoyed when we were successful in our application for a stall at Cobbitty Markets making us one of the originals stallholders...and these markets are still in operation today!
We often sold out of stock, taking orders and honing our production line! We did party plan as well...the business just grew...but then other priorities took hold.

So...it feels like a full circle...I'm back to where I started, creating unique pieces! The kids are grown up, mum is no longer with us and the time to catch up with family gets harder and harder to do...but I am doing what I love, I'm living my dream, with my gorgeous Ambling daughter at my side! She understands what Ambling Home is all about, she is a believer, and is setting about "converting" people one at a time to the Ambling Home brand.
Markets are a lot of work, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! The early starts, the elements, the merchandising, the packing up....the up side are the customers, the organisers who put so much time and effort into the day and the other stall holders. Relationships are made, creative banter is heard and the much earned first coffee is sought after!
At the end of the day who wouldn't love to be a part of a community that supports creativity, an amazing landscape and an opportunity to meet lots of other stall holders.
So if you hear me telling you that I'm sewing for this or preparing for that or I'm applying for this market or that market, just smile at me and say "you wouldn't have it any other way!"
'Till next time.....
